Why Gender Matters

Gender equality and women’s empowerment are cross-cutting priorities across all aspects of UN Environment’s work, as outlined in the graphic below. That’s because considerations of gender and environment are crucial to our ability to achieve a just and sustainable future. Men and women must work hand in hand to confront the environmental challenges of our time.
